Western Australia

JOHN ROE:

John is eager to hold a BBQ for Neil Diamond fans, in Kings Park, Perth, Western Australia, this summer (2002)?  If any fan reading this is interested in going along to that please, e-mail John as soon as possible.

John's bio: "I have been a nut case fan of N D for way over 20 years, far back as I can remember his first songs, what dragged me in the most, after having many of his LP records and tapes, was the Movie Jazz Singer, and I still have it on Tape, of course I have most of his CD's now and one day I will buy a DVD player." **

"I have made 2 ND Homepages, and they have circulated around a bit, clicking up the numbers who have seen them. Not many URL's around these days, but I have also 60 MP3 on my Computer and with extra 4 speakers, I get a near perfect Theatre sound, so I play them while I am working on the Computer.I have been in touch with MaggieB and a few others in Western Australia, and would love to find any more WA fans of ND. I have in mind, to have a BBQ in our beautiful Kings Park, overlooking our beautiful City when I locate as many WA fans as I can."

**[Editors note: DVD players are a must, as the quality of the Jazz Singer movie, and the Greatest Hits concert are incredible on DVD.  And now, Neil has released a DVD taken during the recent tour, 2002.  Which incudes part of the concert in Dublin, and a tour around all the workings of putting and keeping a tour on the road. Very enlightening, sometimes funny, and really interesting.]

NEW ZEALAND

ANGELA McCARTHY:

Angela first heard Neil as a kid when her parents bought the Taproot Manuscript LP. Her favourite songs at that time were, Soolaimon and I Am The Lion. In her household Sunday Sun was played non-stop [one of my favourites too]. Her folks left her feeling forlorn when they went to Neil's first concert, in the 70s, and didn't take her [poor kid - that's tantamount to cruelty]. Angela saw Neil 3 times on the Tennessee Moon tour - twice in New Zealand and at Croke Park, Ireland .[I hope you remembered to take your mittens to that concert in Ireland, Angela.]

Angela has just written a poem called: "What Would I Do If I Met Neil?", and it is now on my Fans Poem page.

ANGELA CAN BE CONTACTED ON:

JUDY FARRELL:

Judy put together a collage of photographs taken by fans of the Australian leg of the Tennessee Moon tour.  She has now completed a worldwide collage for the anniversary of Hot August Night, the theme: "Hot August Night till now."  Both these collages have been presented to Neil. STEVE KOZEL:

Steve is 26 years old and has been a fan for 5 years. He tells me that in his heathen days he appreciated the music of Neil Diamond but after his family bought him the Greatest Hits 1966 - 1992 CD set for his birthday, he became an avid Neilophile [good on ya' cobber].  Steve saw Neil in concert for the first time at the premiere performance in Sydney, 1996,  and was delighted to met Neil at the FOND Australia post-concert get together. "The highlight of my life - so far!" Steve says.  [Welcome aboard Steve, it's great to have you along.]

ELIZABETH COUGHLAN:

Elizabeth says she has been a fan since 1970 and that she would LOVE to visit New York to see The Brill Building. [And maybe a certain Megastar in concert in New York, too, I would imagine?]

Meeting up with other Neil fans at concerts in the USA or/and the UK is something else that Elizabeth would LOVE to do. [All we can do is hope, Elizabeth?]

ELIZABETH WOULD LOVE TO RECEIVE E-MAILS FROM OTHER FANS,

AND CAN BE REACHED ON:

OLIVE GREGORY:

Olive has been a fan/friend for many years and says that Neil's music has seen her through many of life's trails and tribulations, and many of its triumphs too.  To quote Olive:  "What a wonderful gift Neil has given us through his music!"

On the T. Moon tour in Australia in 1996, Olive met up with lots of FOND members on the concert trail; and would love to hear from other fans who love Neil and his music.

MARGARET BURCHALL:

Margaret moved from England to Australia, at the tender age of 13 years. She first saw Neil perform live in Australia in 1976, and has been a fan for over 20 years. Also seeing concerts in 1992 and 1996 Margaret says that although she was able to go only once each time, that those times were fantastic! [Always, fantastic Margaret, always!] If you would like to visit Maggie's Website, please click on my Neilsites Page.

MARGARET LIVES IN THE MELBOURNE AREA, AND WOULD LOVE TO EXCHANGE E-MAILS WITH OTHER NEIL DIAMOND FANS. Maggie now has a Neil Diamond Website, please visit my "other Neilsites" page to connect to her Website.

ANNE HALLY:

A fan for over 20 years Anne was too young to see Neil on the 1976 tour of Australia, or so her parents thought, she tells me.  But she made up for lost time on the '92 and '96 tour, when she saw numerous concerts in Sydney and Melbourne [brilliant Anne, you'll have a chance to repeat those experiences in '99].

Anne also tells me that her first CD was "Hot August Night" to replace her original vinyl copy.[One of the several million owners of this live album in The land Of Oz, I understand!]

To write to Anne, please e-mail her on:

CHEYNE:

Cheyne originates from New Zealand but is now living in Sydney, after seeing Neil on concert there in 1992.  [That's a pretty good reason to be living in Sydney, Cheyne.]

Cheyne, who calls himself "another Aussie fan" would love to hear from other Neil Diamond fans,

MICHAEL REYES SMITH:

"I'm 32 and have been a huge fan for nearly 30 years and while I love other artists as well, Neil is my number one. I first remember hearing Neil as a 3 year old or so when my dad bought a copy of Tap Root Manuscript - I was addicted to I am the Lion. [Editor's note: Ah! That's really sweet. JB]

I moved to LA as a kid, and we lived in Downey. I'd love to go back to LA as an adult, and of course there's no prizes for guessing one of the things I'd make sure that I'd do whilst over there!

The first LP that I ever bought for myself was "20 Superhits" which was a compilation of UNI/MCA/BANG hits. It has a mature version of "Solitary man" that I don't think I've heard on other albums."

I have seen Neil twice in my home town of Adelaide - 1992 and 1999 and what I can't believe is that we moved to LA between 1976 & 1978 and I wasn't taken to see the master once! So I didn't get to see the ground breaking 1976 Australian tour.

I actually have 4 copies of "Hot August Night" - one on vinyl & 3 on CD (my wife & I both had a copy when we met {& a copy each of "Lovescape"} and one was in the boxed set "Hot April Nights" to commemorate the April 1992 Australian tour).

My favourite songs would have to be "Love on the Rocks", "Cherry Cherry" & "All I Really Need is You" but I also love a couple of the less obvious ones - "Can Anybody Hear Me", "Up on the Roof" (the best ever version of that classic) and "Love Burns" from "Yesterday's Songs".

Fave Albums: "Beautiful Noise"; "Hot August Night"; "The Jazz Singer"; "Lovescape" & "Tennessee Moon".

My biggest disappointment is: a friend of mine won't part with his autographed photo of Neil, despite threats, bribes or pleading.

[Editor's note: Don't blame him, neither would I!. I don't have Neil's autograph written just for me. But I do have it on the plate and the large statue, if you know what I mean?]
